| DTOI Dry Technology Oxide Injection (DTOI) is a
proprietary system for neutralizing large amounts of acid. Unlike any other acid
neutralization system, DTOI is a specially designed mixing system developed by Premier
Chemicals to produce a magnesium oxide slurry.
DTOI is not a slaking process. Since the rate of hydration for magnesium oxide is
relatively slow, DTOI meters, mixes, and quickly pumps oxide slurry directly to the
process. The primary advantage of DTOI is a reduction in reagent expense of 25% or more.
Oxide slurry offers all the advantages of magnesium hydroxide slurry, but it is less
expensive and often more effective than hydroxide. The neutralization ratio of oxide
versus hydroxide is 1.0 / 0.69 = 1.45.
MgO:
Mg + O = 24.3 + 16 = 40.3 |
Mg(OH)2:
Mg + (OH)2= 24.3 +(16 + 1)2=
= 24.3 + 34 = 58.3 |
58.3 / 40.3 = 1.45
Therefore 1.45 pounds of dry hydroxide are required for every pound of oxide.
Considering the addition of slurry water, the freight costs of hydroxide are three times
higher than magnesium oxide. In addition to meaningful material cost reduction, this
technology offers these added benefits:
- Oxide slurry often neutralizes faster than hydroxide slurry.
- Safe and introduces 50% less water to the treatment system.
- No continuous mixing storage tanks are required.
- DTOI requires no additives to suspend the slurry and prevent settling, this enhances
clarifier and filtration performance.
- DTOI can be installed in parallel with the existing hydroxide system.
Neutralization from one truckload of Magox is equal to three
truckloads of 50% magnesium hydroxide slurry.
